Aims

This course, together with the academic supervision provided by the promoter, is intended to give students the skills they need to write a successful dissertation, relying on a research methodology suited to the performing arts and handling the editorial aspects of the work as effectively as possible.

Main themes

The following are among the methodological issues to be dealt with: determining the nature of the research project and formulating a research outline, gathering, storing and processing information (interview and survey techniques, bibliographical file management, etc.). Among editorial issues, particular attention will be focused on synthesising skills, the writer's position in relation to the theses he alludes to and the composition of the work's strategic points - the introduction and conclusion.
Care will be taken to establish a methodology that takes due account of the references and intuitive insights of practitioners of the performing arts.

Content and teaching methods

The course's design allows for theoretical contributions provided by the teacher to alternate with collective or individual exchanges regarding interim work produced by the students.

Other information (prerequisite, evaluation (assessment methods), course materials recommended readings, ...)

The evaluation is based on students' participation in sessions and the quality of the interim work they produce. Students are expected to compile a research outline and a bibliographical file, perform a critical analysis of an existing dissertation and write samples of text.
