Content and teaching methods

I. Anthroponymy :

Methods of the scientific study of the personal names. History of the personal names until our days; various anthroponymic systems in the Gallo-Romance domain and especially in French-speaking Belgium. Characteristics of the contemporary anthroponymy and the place of the personal names in the modern society, incidentally in the literature. Exercises of application starting from the dictionary PatRom (Patronymica Romanica).

II. Toponymy :

Methods of the scientific study of the place names; the contribution and interest of toponymy. History of the constitution of the place names until our days. Presentation of the principal characteristics of the toponymy of the Gallo-Romance domain, and especially of Wallonia. The management of the place names in the modern society; incidentally, their use in the literature.
