Aims

Thorough study of the French medieval literature, we will look into special questions, that are likely to help the students draft their paper of the dissertation, and to train them, to search throroughly in the mediaevalistic field.

Main themes

In the wake of the course " Explanation on French authors in the Middle Ages (ROM 2250 or 2260), the subject of the seminar is twofold : to study thoroughly the basics on the text publishing already seen ; have the students analyse an author or a work in several methodological and critical lights.

Content and teaching methods

Different trends are possible, depending on the year and the number of students.
As far as the dissertation is concerned, the seminar can allow us to assess papers in progress or it can also serve as training necessary for future papers.
Regarding the course " Explanation on French authors in the Middle Ages" (ROM 2250 or 2260), the seminar can allow us to go in depth - thanks to personal essays - into unseen points at the ex cathedra course, especially in-depth questions of texts criticism, or methodological enlightenments linked to a state of the critical question. The seminar could also be focussed on a common research team, which could lead to a collective paper/ work if need be.
