Aims
This course is a continuation of the Candidature ROM 1178 (French literature) seminar, that suggests an initiation to the sociology of literature, by studying its place among the common social and cultural practices.
This course indeed analyses the interaction of literature and social life in text productions.
Main themes
- The institution of literature, its authorities and its actors (in particular the status of writer)
- The sociology of the literary genres.
- The novel and its social influences in fiction and narration.
- The text and cultural intertext, the ideology and the stereotypes.
Content and teaching methods
Specificities of the stakes of Socio-criticism. Text-society problematics : Historical and contemporary points of view. Sociocriticism analysis methods. Social life and history of the writer. In-depth socio-criticism reading of a para-literary work.

Prerequisites : Students are advised to be aware of the analysis concepts and instruments, necessary for the study the literary field.
Oral exam.
Teaching materials : Ex cathedra course. The curriculum is for a great deal devoted to critical reading of theoretical texts and to the analysis of (para)literary work extracts.
