Aims

Course on the syntax of contemporary French. It is meant to strenghten the bases of the syntactic analysis.

Main themes

To deal with basic notions : the sentence and its components, the different kinds of sentences, the co-ordination and subordination, the rules of agreement, etc.
Take into account the language experience of the students. The necessary theoritical aspects do not have to hamper the use of a varied corpus (different varieties of written and oral language)

Content and teaching methods

The main objective of this course is to familiarize the students with the principal aspects of the syntax of contemporary French. The basic notions of the " sentence grammar " (the sentence and its components, the rules of agreement, the subordination, etc.) will be seen and " textual grammar " will be introduced. The syntactic analysis will be based on both the student(s)'s linguistic experience and on various linguistic corpus. Theoritical contribution borrowed from different schools will be tested
