Aims
This course examines the following sacraments: penance, anointing of the sick, ordination and minor orders ("Ministeria"). The students are then taught to look within these different sacraments to find the "means of salvation" for the Christian and the Church, as well as to situate them in relation to specific dogma.
Main themes
Content:
(a) Positive part: This part examines the biblical record and the Christian tradition up through the rituals of Vatican II and the ecumenical agreements. The Code is examined for the sacrament of Penance, except for jurisdiction.
(b) Systematic part: This part examines penance, conflict and sin, confession and forgiveness, personal salvation and collective salvation, the anointing of the sick, salvation and health, pastoral ministry to the sick, sacramental theologies, the order and the ministries, relationship to Christ and the Church and sacramentality.
Content and teaching methods
Method: Students are given the opportunity to comment on some major theological and conciliar texts.
