Aims

At the end of this course, the students will have to be able to read scientific books regarding the geography, history and archaeology of Mesopotamia and of the Egypt of the 3rd millennium till our Age.

Main themes

First year : geographical and historical introduction to the second millennium in Mesopotamia and in Egypt. Difference between Sumerian and Akkadian language and civilisation. We will read important historical texts of the second millennium B.C.
Second year : history of the first-States and of Northern and Southern Israël.

Content and teaching methods

Historic-critics method, with special attention to the history of literature, art and religion.
