Aims

Provide each student or researcher interested in Asia Minor, Syria and Mesopotamia with the necessary philological complement.

Main themes

The course will possibly familiarize the student with a few Sumerian texts (Ur III); the main part of the course will be dealing with some Asianic philologic issues on :
1) the study of Hourrite grammar and texts (Tablets Kbo XXXII 14,15….and Hourrite texts from Emar and Ugarit);
2) the study of Louvite texts of the first Millenium and of Lycian texts.

Content and teaching methods

Study of Luwian (daughter language of Hittite) and of Lycian; introduction to the Hurrian language. Philologic analysis of several inscriptions.

Other information (prerequisite, evaluation (assessment methods), course materials recommended readings, ...)

Prerequisite : knowledge of Hittite.
Evaluation : oral exam and home preparation of a text not seen at the course.
Texts and books : photocopied notes will be handed out to the students.
