Aims

Good knowledge of the Akkadian language. Be able to transcribe a cuneiform text, to use the dictionaries, the literary journals and collection quite well.

Main themes

General revision of the grammar points. The course is focussed on the philological study of the Akkadian texts of the second millennium BC, especially the historic and religious texts of Mari, Emar, Ougarit and Nuzi.
Transcription exercises. Translation essays.

Content and teaching methods

Study of historic and religious texts of Mari, Emar, Ugarit and Nuzi. Photocopied notes will be handed out to the students.

Prerequisite : Being initiated to the languages with cuneiform writing or having followed the course GLOR 1812.
Evaluation : written exam and translation of and comments on an unseen text.
Texts and books : Photocopied notes will be handed out to the students.
