 Aims
Give the students an introduction to cuneiform characters/writing and to Akkadian and Hittite grammar. Give some bases of Sumerian.
Main themes
1. Introduction to the cuneiform script.
2. Hittite grammar and study of some easy texts.
3. Akkadian grammar and study of extracts of the "Codex of Hammurabi".
4. Bases of Sumerian grammar.
Content and teaching methods
Get the students to know the principal signs of the cuneiform script in their classical form. Reading exercises. Copies of Hittite and Akkadian grammar. Study of some easy texts.

Prerequisite : knowledge of Latin is desirable
Evaluation : continuous assessment throughout the year and oral exam
Teaching materials : texts and books: notes and copies given by the professor.
