 Aims
Deepening of literary skills.
Main themes
In depth study of some or all the works of an author who has left his/her mark on Dutch literature. A poet (G. Gezelle, P. Van Ostaijen, H. Marsman, H. Claus,…), a novelist and/or a writer of short novels (S. Vestdijk, A. Van Schendel, Multatuli, L. Couperus,…) or a playwright will be chosen. It could also be interesting to study an author having practised different genres to see how a same theme is expressed through different forms (ex. H. Claus or S. Vestdijk).
Content and teaching methods
Dutch poetry of the 20th century : historical and literary survey, as well as analysis of several poems.
Other information (prerequisite, evaluation (assessment methods), course materials recommended readings, ...)
Prerequisites : GERM 1136; GERM 1235 and GERM 1236and a strong interest in this area of Dutch literature.
Evaluation : Essay and discussion with the teacher about the essay.
