Acquiring insight into major political , economic, social and cultural developments in the English-speaking world with special emphasis on the English-speaking countries of Europe.

5. Intellectual, philosophical and religious developments.
6. Aesthetic views.
7. Synthesis of achievements, struggles, weaknesses and hopes in Great-Britain, Ireland, the United States and other English-speaking countries.

Content and teaching methods

This course examines the major events of the last seven decades in Great-Britain and Ireland, two countries in a post-imperial phase. This analysis is supported by extracts from films and visual archives.

Teaching materials : screening of films, archives and programmes.
