Aims

The three seminars followed in the second and third terms (i.e. DVLP 3350, DVLP 3360 and DVLP 3370) should, through work linked to the work of a research supervision team, enable students to show that they can draw up, and conduct, a research topic.
The specific objective of this seminar is to analyse the spatio-temporal dimensions of development-environment interactions within the framework of local societies and the current globalisation movement.

Main themes

This seminar will firstly examine the subjects dealt with in Courses SPED 3320 and 3330 in more detail, and will focus particularly on an understanding of the notions of territory, level of analysis and spatio-temporal dimension.
It will then make a link between empirical research and theories concerning the global and local dynamics of development-environment interactions by stressing a comparison of this research and these theories depending on spaces (i.e. north, south and east), and by locating them in precise historical processes.

Content and teaching methods

The first part of the seminar (15 hours in the second term) will be taken up with introductory expositions, documentary research, and an initial report on existing literature on the subject selected by the student.
The second part (15 hours in the third term) will be entirely given over to producing the report and its presentation by the student.
