Aims

The priority in this course is the development, among future teachers, of the ability to identify - difficulties and obstacles involved in studying concepts in biology, - ethical problems associated with the development of biology with a view to using these to design teaching modules in line with the new science syllabi.

Main themes

Natural sciences Education focuses mainly on science teaching. The supplementary course on teaching methods in biology focuses primarily on the studying of biology. In this context, the principal concepts dealt with in the biology syllabi for the later years of secondary education will be approached from the point of view of their connections with one another. They will be related to learning difficulties experienced by pupils, as described in studies of biology Education and by teachers taking part to the course. Future teachers will be encouraged to gather and/or analyse data from pupils and to come up with appropriate teaching strategies.
