Aims
Students will acquire a basic knowledge of the history of architecture from 1500 to the present day on the Old Dutch and Belgian territories. They will learn how to identify and analyse the type, artistic trend, and date of a building. They will learn how to use reference tools
Main themes
Study of the history of architecture from 1500 to the present day in the Old Dutch and Belgian territories, by period: Renaissance, Mannerism, Baroque and Rococo, Neo-Classicism, Historicism, Modern architecture.
Content and teaching methods
Lectures according to the above mentioned plan. Case studies. On site visits and field trips, excursions of 1 or 2 days.
Thematic tutorials/assignments/exercises: public and urban spaces, important excavation projects, etc.
Written and/or oral presentation of a research dossier.

Pre-requisites: General notions in art history and architecture for the periods mentioned.
Assessment: Oral examination on the basis of questions and images/pictures.
Course Material: Recommended readings. Slides, transparencies.
