Aims

Prepare the student for the profession of museum curator.

Main themes

Lectures on the problems associated with museology, mainly security and climatology. Specific practical problems to do with the preservation of paintings. History of museums. Exercises are designed to make the students familiar with the different types of museum in the country, stressing the range of problems and solutions.

Content and teaching methods

History of museum buildings from Antiquity to the present day. Technical problems facing museums (hygrometry, lighting, security, and so on). Special problems concerning the preservation of paintings and related items (fabrics, papers, etc.). Practical exercises and in-house training: technical problems and specific questions to do with the preservation of paintings or other museum pieces decided by mutual agreement.
