Aims

Ø Objectives

The main objective of the course is to develop the learner's skill in mastering (essentially) spoken German in interactive communication situations which he/she will come across in his/her daily life and in his/her future professional activities.

Reading comprehension

Can autonomously understand factual texts and specialised articles relating to his/her field of study.

Listening comprehension

Individual : à Can understand lectures and authentic talks and follow an argumentation.
à Can understand audiovisual documents relating to current events and/or to his/her field of study.
à Can make use of relevant points (items) from a document in a conversation.
Interactive : à Can follow an everyday conversation between several native speakers in the main socio-professional contexts.

Speaking skills

Individual : à Can give an audience a clear, well-structured presentation of a complex subject referring only occasionally to his/her notes.à Can give clear, detailed descriptions and presentations on subjects, integrating related themes, developing particular points and rounding off with an appropriate conclusion.
Interactive : à Can spontaneously take part in a conversation on familiar subjects or on subjects of personal interest or on everyday topics (family, leisure, work, travel, current events…)
à Can actively take part in a conversation in familiar situations, can express and stand up for his/her opinions.à Can communicate spontaneously and fluently (almost effortlessly) in interaction with a native speaker.à Can contribute in an active, flexible and efficient way to conversations inside the professional and social fields.à Can express, link up and stand for his/her ideas in socio-professional conversations.

Code

Ability to master the language functions, the grammatical structures, the vocabulary (general and specific to the field of study), the pronunciation and intonation of the German language so as to enable spontaneous and fluent communication.

Main themes

Methods

The student is encouraged to gradually improve his/her oral skills in the various above mentioned domains. The teacher will provide a wide range of linguistic tools and documents (written and audiovisual) which will enable the student to be efficient in interactive communication situations. Feedback activities and revision exercises are also part of the course.

Ø Requirements

To fulfil (to have reached) the objectives of the second year in Germanic languages and literature.

Assessment

à Continuous assessment based on the student's participation during class through various activities and at least one talk.
à The oral exam consists of an interactive and an individual part (role plays, debate...) based on topics practised during class.
? The application file (CV and cover letter) will be taken into account in the global grade.
