Message of the Coordinators

The next DYSCO day will be organized by the VUB team and will take place on November 22, 2013 at the prestigious "Palais des Académies" in Brussels. You can see from the announcement that the local organizers have put together a very interesting program. The study days are an ideal opportunity for our younger researchers to interact with each other and also hear about the latest developments from well-established researchers. We urge you to attend this study day so that you can benefit from all this.

The newsletter Dysco News is the monthly newsletter of the Belgian Interuniversity Attraction Pole "Dynamical systems, control and optimization" (DYSCO) funded by the Belgian Science Policy Office.   • Erik Quaeghebeur has left UGent on October 1st, although he will stay associated to SYSTeMS. In the coming year, he will divide his time between teaching "Modeling and analysis of systems" at the ULg (as substitute for Rodolphe Sepulchre) and doing research at the CWI in Amsterdam, collaborating with Peter Grünwald.
  • The SYSTeMS research group welcomes several young scientists. Kevin Boxstael will start a Phd on multibody dynamics applied to the performance optimization of racing bikes. La Duc Viet will visit our group for 3 months and work on smart structures for amplifying the power flow between two oscillators. Both will cooperate with Prof. Mia Loccufier and Prof. Dirk Aeyels.
  • Zhifei Zhang has joined SYSTeMS on 20/09 for a period of two years for a joint PhD with ECUST Shanghai. He will work with Prof. Alain Sarlette on dealing with heterogeneity in distributed coordination control.
