Parallel to the practical training, the specialist candidate will follow a university training programme organised as follows :
part - Foundation studies
These two years of training consist of :
• theory : directives on operatory and surgical techniques, including general pathology, loco-regional and general anaesthesia, ressuscitation, traumatology and emergency care.
• seminars (including 6 hours of training on communication)
• supervised hospital training, organised within the apprenticeship services.

The theoretical sessions of the first two years form part of the specific university training programme (FUS, in French).
part - Higher studies
Four years of training, consisting of :
• seminars (disciplinary and inter-disciplinary seminars on thoracic and vascular surgery, digestive and pediatric surgery, organ transplants).
• supervised hospital training (clinical demonstrations of digestive and general surgery, organ trasplant surgery, vascular and thoracic surgery).
