Minor in Medieval Studies [30.0] - MINMEDI

Retour en début de pageStudy objectives

The minor in medieval studies aims to give students of all disciplines basic multidisciplinary training in medieval studies, both in terms of course methodology and content. The program includes an introduction to the cultural foundations of medieval civilization  ( Christian, ancient and Byzantine worlds, Islam, etc) with a view to giving students an introduction to several aspects of medieval society and culture. As far as skills are concerned, the student will, be the end of his/her minor course, have acquired basic training in medieval studies; s/he will have acquainted him/herself with the related methodology and will have encountered a multidisciplinary approach for the first time.

Students may take the minor in order to acquire an additional skill to that of their main course of study, thus making the course an end in itself.

The minor also aims to help students gain a deeper understanding of the medieval period during the first level (first two years of study).  This approfondissement can be continued at second level, or the last two years of the degree course ( Middle Age section and dissertation matching the medieval studies followed as part of the basic training; medieval studies option proposed with different Faculté de Philosophie et Lettres master's courses). Students who study this course will find it easier to get on to master's courses that deal with the various aspects of medieval civilization.
