The objective of the Master’s course in civil engineering is to train engineers able to respond to the challenges of future technology in the scientific and technical fields related to civil and environmental engineering in a rapidly changing European and global context.

On completion of their Master students will master the mathematical and physical metholds of the five basic subject matter of civil and environmental engineering (construction, hydraulics, geotechnics, stuctures and materials, environment) and will have acquired highly developed skills in these areas by means of an approach based on projects as well as elective activities.

Every year, an advanced topic will be offered in one of the three disciplines : hydraulics, geotechnics and structures. In parallel, a project integrating the two other disciplines will introduce a multidisciplinary approach.

Seven options are on offer for the students. The first five offer an elective in each of the five fields mentioned, viz. Construction and Architecture, Hydraulics, Geotechnics, Structures and Environment to allow students to orient their training. A sixth option is more especially composed of a choice of courses dealing with advanced methods in civil engineering. The objective of the seventh option in Management is to familiarize civil engineering students with the basic principles of managing businesses.

The Master’s curriculum in Civil engineering will require a minimum total of 120 credits covering two years, with a minimum of 60 credits per year, and comprising :

- a core curriculum of 30 credits

- a specialisation (30 credits)

- one option (of at least 15 credits) from the seven on offer (Advanced Methods in Civil Engineering, Hydraulics, Geotechnics, Stuctures, Environment, Construction and Architecture, Management)

- electives, if necessary

The final thesis is generally written during the last year. However, students may choose to take any given course in the first or second year, subject to possible prerequisites. This will be the case in particular for students pursuing part of their education abroad.

If, in the course of his (her) former curriculum, a student has already been credited with a subject included in the compulsory core curriculum, or any training deemed equivalent, this subject will be replaced by any elective course within the imposed constraints. The student is responsible for checking whether the minimum total number of credits has been reached, as well as those of the specialized field, which will appear on the final diploma.

The student’s curriculum will be scrutinized for acceptance by the Architecture engineering diploma committee.

Whatever the focus or the options chosen, the programme of this master shall total 120 credits, spread over two years of studies each of 60 credits
