Finalité didactique [30.0]

The teaching focus is geared towards preparing students to teach in higher level secondary education.
The programme aims to help students develop the following skills:
- thinking up, planning and evaluating practices;
- thinking about practices and their context;
- understanding schools, their framework and key players;
There are three types of activity:
- internships in higher secondary education (60h)
- seminars;
- lectures.
The activities are in two categories:
- internships, classes and transversal seminars, common to all disciplines. They bear the code AGRE (13 credits );
- internships, courses and seminars exclusively for the discipline(s) (17 credits ).

The teaching focus of the masters 120 includes training leading to a diploma entitled 'Agrégation de l’enseignement secondaire supérieur' (300h – 30 credits), by way of reference to the decrees of 8 February, 2001 and 17 December, 2003 (relating to the foundations of neutrality) on the initial training of higher level secondary school teachers in the French Community in Belgium.
These 30 credits also constitute an AESS programme in history which can be taken after a master 60 or 120.
In concrete terms, passing the 'teaching focus' of a master leads to the student obtaining a teaching focus masters degree and the professional title 'agrégé de l'enseignement secondaire supérieur'. The evaluation of the skills in the AESS programme is spread over the two years of the master.
Research in the teaching and communication unit in history deal with teaching the integration and evaluation of skills in history classes, the pupils' cultural skills, the teachers' practices and conceptions and the conception of history school books. The unit has special links with the 'Service de didactique spéciale de l'histoire' at the University of Liège and many teaching experts in French speaking countries and elsewhere.
