Teaching method

Retour en début de pageStrong points of the pedagogical approach

Most of the courses on methodology and the tools of applied statistics involve practical work on the computer and an application project which is included in the assessment. This approach enables students to systematically use the tools introduced in the methodological courses and be prepared for field work.  Doing projects in multidisciplinary teams also creates a stimulating and friendly atmosphere amongst the participants. There is also the possibility of doing a work placement in business or in a research laboratory to complement the methodological aspects of the dissertation. Most of the courses given by the lecturers in statistics are available on iCampus or on the website of the Institute of Statistics. Certain specialized courses are taught by guest lecturers from the business sector and/or are given in English to familiarize students with the language as it is frequently used in the field of statistics.

Each course in the programme involves an oral or written examination. There may also be a project leading to a report which will form part of the assessment. The work placement (or work involving statistical application) and the dissertation both involve the production of a document to be defended in an oral examination with an examination board.
