Main themes
The course is centred on the artistic exchanges immediately before the First World War that were characteristic of an internationalisation of the avant-gardes. It examines the impact of the war and explores the new international landscape of the inter-war period. The issue of the indictment of avant-gardes by critics, by political regimes or even by the artists themselves is also covered.

Content
All the movements characteristic of the period 1912-1937 may be mentioned : Cubism, Futurism, Expressionism, Rayonism, Suprematism, Constructivism, Socialist Realism, Metaphysical Painting, Purism, Verismo, Precisionism, Dadaism, Surrealism, Regionalism, 'Naïve art', etc.
Teaching methods
Encounters between artworks and the documents that locate their reception within a national and international context.
