At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

This part A of the unit Langue et culture integrates lexicology study (to be able to read and understand all sections of a newspaper) and oral practice on the topics studied in lexicology.

At the end of this part A, the student will be able to
  • summarize his/her readings and the news of the week
  • manage daily life situations or problem situations to be faced during the Erasmus stay in the third year (to have a daily conversation with Spanish-speaking people, express his/her opinion or disagreement in order to be understood.
  • take part in a round table about the news.

Thanks to his/her participation and the works submitted during the term, the student will be able to demonstrate that he/she
  • controls the terminology used in the different sections of a Spanish newspaper (economics, geopolitics, society, natural disasters and culture)
  • can identify the exact term in his/her mother language on the basis of a full understanding of words in context
  • infer a term from its definition
  • translate short sentences from French into Spanish and from Spanish into French using the terminology studied
Culture part:
  • Acquire an overview of the history of Spain (periods, characters, cultural productions, etc.)
  • Situate the most significant processes in Spanish history chronologically, from Romanization to the 21st century.
  • Be able to carry out documentary research on a predefined cultural topic, selecting relevant resources in Spanish.
  • Present a cultural topic in Spanish, respecting the subject-specific terminology.
  • Be able to explain a specific cultural production in its historical and social context.
 
Content
All kinds of lexical activities and oral practice face to face
  • portfolio of press articles and extraction of terms
  • shared glossaries on Google sheets on a given subject
  • oral presentation of different topics related to the chapters of lexicology
  • role playing, interactions, debates and roundtables
Culture:
Lectures on the political and cultural history of Spain from Romanization to the 21st century.

Culture:
Classroom-based course
  • Lectures (in Spanish), illustrated by audiovisual material (video documentaries or podcasts).
  • Preparation and presentation of a group project on a particular cultural topic (as suggested by the teacher).
  • Interactive activities where student participation is required.
At the professor's discretion, 15% of the classroom-based course may be replaced by supervised and/or independent distance learning work.
Evaluation methods
In order to obtain the credits of this part A (first term) of the unit, the student will have to take an exam in two parts(written and oral) and to have submitted all the works asked for in the required timetable.

Students shall attend all sessions and will not be allowed to miss more than 2 sessions without justification otherwise they won't be allowed to take the exam.
All the above also applies to the tasks to be done within the required timetable. (= not more than 2 tasks unfulfilled and unjustified)
Culture:
25%: Individual assessment of oral participation in group presentation ( calendar to be confirmed by the professor)
  • Evaluation criteria: linguistic aspects, content and format of the presentation
15%: Summary of the presentation (date to be confirmed by the professor)
  • Evaluation criteria: ability to synthesise content, linguistic aspects, format, well-cited sources
60%: Final oral exam on a selection of course topics (exhibition) and on the content of all presentations (concrete questions).
  • Evaluation criteria: linguistic aspects (pronunciation, intonation, grammar), theoretical content (specific lexicon), oral interaction (fluency).
In August, the exam will consist of an oral presentation on a random topic from the course and questions about the presentations of the other groups.
Unjustified absence on the day of one's own presentation will be sanctioned by a 0 in this part. In case of a justified absence, the student will have to make an additional individual presentation during the oral exam (theme proposed by the professor). 
NB: The use of generative AI is forbidden in the Culture section. Machine translation tools may only be used to understand bibliographical sources in specific cases. The use of any technology will be done responsibly and in accordance with the practices of academic and scientific integrity, and will therefore be systematically indicated by the student.
