Prerequisites

The course assumes a basic formation in moral philosophy and a good knowledge (at least passive) of English.

Main themes

In order to reach the goals that have been set the course will focus each year on a different theme that will allow the relationships beteween different orientations in philosophical ethics to be seen concrete issues of applied ethics and methodological reflection.
The conceptual analysis will be accompanied by case studies.

Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :
1	formulate and treat selected topics in the area of moral philosophy;
2	identify and justify a position with regards to the plurality of ethical approaches;
3	use appropriately the tools of research in philosophy and other disciplines relevant to his/her theme.

Content

Cosmopolitanism: Philosophical Backgrounds and Ethical Implications (2022-2023)
What does it mean to be a citizen of the world? Does it still make sense in 2022 as a philosophical ideal and as an ethical orientation? The course will critically reconstruct various traditions of cosmopolitanism and focus on contemporary challenges (climate change, international migration, human rights, global justice, etc.). Strong points will be discussed as well as ambiguities of an ideal which Martha Nussbaum calls “noble but flawed”. Case studies will be used to test the potential of problem-based and interdisciplinary learning in moral philosophy.
