Content
In 2021-2022, we will approach literary history through the reception of 16th- and 17th-century French literature in the 20th and 21st century. This study will enable us to reflect on the major literary categories and genres that have gradually been formalised by historiography, such as Renaissance literature, Petrarchan poetry, Baroque, Classicism, the modern novel, etc.. We will use a corpus of representative works as well as a portfolio of critical texts from the 20th and 21th century. We will reflect on the poetic but also ideological or political processes that have presided over the formation of these categories, which have formed the "history of literature".
Teaching methods
After initial sessions in which the professor will present the problematic issues involved in the proposed subject, other sessions will allow the question to be clarified through the study of examples. The students are invited, throughout the term, to intervene to share the discoveries they have made in the course of their readings.
Evaluation methods
Written essay to be prepared individually at home.
