Content
For several decades now, the conviction has emerged that literary creation, in many of its expressions, develops a critical reading of culture that lays bare the colonial assumptions that underlie it. The decolonial significance of literary works is particularly noticeable among authors who are more directly linked to the colonial heritage through their belonging to the native peoples of Latin America.
From this perspective, the study of literature, especially poetry and narrative, produced by Chilean authors of indigenous origin (mainly Mapuche) is particularly productive and stimulating. In a very broad corpus of works written since the 1970s, it will be possible to analyze the decolonial devices that these works present and that seek to undermine the foundations of the categories bequeathed by the Spanish colonial system: language, the modality of the relationship with nature and religion. During the seminar, two case studies will be analyzed in more detail, both by women poets : Cecilia Vicuña and Roxana Miranda Rupailaf. However, the students' individual works will be able to focus on writers such as Elicura Chihuailaf, Leonel Lienlaf, Adriana Paredes Pinda, María Lara Millapan, Daniela Catrileo, Cristián Formoso, etc.
Evaluation methods
Evaluation will be on the basis of participation by the student and the presentation of written and oral work.
