Content
This teaching unit aims to introduce students to cultural and anthropological history. This year, 2021-2022, the course will focus specifically on the origin of anthropological thought and on the different currents of the anthropological field since the second half of the 19th century. We will analyse how these currents are linked to historical developments, particularly in the West, and to a relationship to the other influenced by colonial thought. We will study how these questions challenge and influence the historical approach. We will also study more recent currents addressing fundamental questions in the humanities, such as Subaltern Studies and the relationship between humans and nature in the so-called Anthropocene era.
Course objective : At the end of this course, the student will be able to chronologically classify the different anthropological currents, to point out their stakes and to make links between these currents and the historical approach. They will understand how anthropological thought has influenced the historical approach, particularly in the emergence of cultural history.
