The dissertation is an important moment of the academic cursus. It should demonstrate the student ability to master disciplinary questions by herself or himself, if necessary through hypotheses, leading to a relevant choice of research methodology, the analysis and interpretation of gathered information, relating to a well-constructed theoretical framework, all synthetized in a clear and concise work (the master thesis manuscript). The final thesis of Master 120 is therefore the scientific crowning glory of the academic cursus. It implies the mobilization of all the methodological and heuristic assets of the university's approach. The dissertation must demonstrate a capacity for synthesis and reflection and focus on targeted research questions.
In its particular form, the “master thesis-project” is a testament to the capacity of the student to base the conception of an ICT device (with an educational purpose) on this methodical and critical academic approach.

With regard to the AA reference framework of the "master’s in Sciences and Technologies of Information and Communication" program, this course contributes to the development of the following skills:  AA.1.6. Designing and implementing the steps of a research.

Content

This second part of the dissertation works in collaboration with a promoter and, if necessary, a co-promoter, during the first stages of the research. Afterwards, the student will finalize his/her work independently until the submission of the manuscript and the defense in front of a jury.

Evaluation methods

The evaluation of the dissertation is carried out on the basis of the manuscript by a jury composed of the promoter, the co-promoter if applicable, and a reader designated on the basis of the subject, under the supervision of a chairperson. At the end of this discussion, the student will be allowed (or not, if the work is judged insufficient) to present his/her work. The final grade will be based primarily on the manuscript but will also take this defense into account.
