This course aims to introduce the world of music, especially Western classical music, in a lively and active way, through concerts and commentary.
Aims

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

1 Discovery of the world of music and introduction to the main forms and musical structures.
Acquisition of a critical approach of active listening, in particular by commented auditions and concert attendance.

Content
After a broad introduction that outlines the genres and forms of Western music and highlights some of the major works of the repertoire, the course develops around concerts in which students are invited to participate and commented plays of works from the classical repertoire or current creations.
Teaching methods

Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the information in this section is particularly likely to change.

The teaching methods for this course are varied and consist of lectures, visits of ConcertHouses, conferences and compulsory attendance to the performances.
Evaluation methods

Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the information in this section is particularly likely to change.

The assessment consists of two modes: continuous assessments (30%) and a final exam (70%).
The exam (70%) is a written test which covers the material taught during the lectures as well as the concerts of the year.
Continuous assessment (30%) includes assignments (reading sheets, concert reports), and possible tests during the term.
