The theoretical part of the course (volume 1) will focus on vocabulary extension and grammatical precision (especially in writing) by means of different types of exercises.

The practical part of the course (volume 2) will focus on the proper use of the language code (vocabulary and grammar) when speaking (fluency, pronunciation, lexical accuracy): Vocabulary and grammar exercises, listening and reading comprehension, individual and interactive speaking practice, writing exercises (to a lesser extent). The topics of texts and activities are of general interest.

The course will address a wide range of listening and reading techniques and exercises at a high proficiency level (based on a variety of sources and language usages) aiming at a detailed comprehension of recordings and written texts, among which literary texts.
Evaluation methods

Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the information in this section is particularly likely to change.

Continuous evaluation: active participation, six tests spread over the year, six written assignments and two oral presentations (30% of the final mark).
Final evaluation: written and oral exams in January (35% of the final mark) and in June (35% of the final mark). In case of failure in January, the student will retake the exam in the June session. The submission of exercises throughout the year is not part of the final mark, but is an indispensable condition for being admitted to the exams in January and June according to article 72 of the RGEE.
In case of a second registration for the examination, only the part corresponding to the assessment at the end of each quadrimester (70% of the final mark) may be submitted.
Students with a mark lower than 8/20 will in one (or more) parts of the final exam (writing, listening, reading, speaking) will fail the entire course (with 7/20 or less if the mean is lower) and will retake only those parts which they did not pass (10/20).
