Aims
At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to : | |

Acquisition of the foundations of German linguistics with respect to German Phonetics/Phonology and German Morphology. The most fundamental empirical generalizations from the two linguistic fields will be discussed and the theoretical instruments for explaining them within modern linguistic theory. |
Content
The studies will be accompanied by exercises in linguistic argumentation. The students begin to read literature on linguistics (phonetics/phonology, morphology, syntax); and they begin to develop linguistic analyses and to evaluate linguistic argumentation with respect to phonetics/phonology, and morphology. Phonetics/Phonology: German consonants and German vowels, International phonetic alphabet for German (Transcriptions), phonemes, phonological rules of German, basic concepts of linear and non-linear phonology, rule ordering, syllables. Morphology: Categories of words, morphemes, morphological processes (derivation, inflection, composition), lexical semantics. Evaluation : * Partial (written) test in German, optional. The test will be written at the end of the first quadrimester. * General (written) test in German, obligatory. The test will be written in June and September.
