Content
This course is an introductory course on the communicational, social, economic, legal and / or technological challenges of digital technology. It will consist essentially of three parts, each supported by one of the three teachers.
1. Technical aspect: it will give the keys to technical understanding of the digital world and raise awareness of some of the major issues of society that emerge. In particular, the following topics will be addressed:
  • Artificial intelligence
  • Big Data
  • Transhumanism
  • Challenges related to algorithms
2. Legal aspect:
  • Fundamental rights in the digital environment: right of access to the internet, right to data protection (RGPD), privacy, right to be forgotten, etc.
  • Artificial intelligence and law
  • The right of digital platforms (Uber, eBay, AirBnb, etc.)
  • The right of social networks
  • Etc.
3. Communicational aspect:
Teaching methods

Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the information in this section is particularly likely to change.

  • Lectures by the teachers and possibly by speakers directly involved in digital technologies.
  • Solicitation of the knowledge acquired by the students in their experience of the use of technologies.
COVID-19 modalities
  • All of the course sessions are normally given face to face.
  • In the event that sanitary measures related to covid19 are maintained, the lectures will be given in co-modality: presence of the students, and possibility of remote attendance via Teams. If the auditorium does not allow for such remote attendance, lectures will be given entirely via Teams.
Evaluation methods

Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the information in this section is particularly likely to change.

Evaluation consists of a case study that needs to be analyzed in light of the three components of the course. The practical details of this case study will be exposed to the students at the beginning of the semester (and available on Moodle).
As part of an ongoing evaluation, teachers can ask students for individual work that will feed into the discussion of the topics covered in the course sessions.
