- Reading comprehension: Articles from the New Scientist, Scientific American etc. as well as extracts from the textbook "Understanding Earth".
- Listening comprehension : BBC science programmes

- Home-reading of the documents which will be covered in class in order to develop reading strategies.
- In class, checking of the student's reading strategies as well as analysis and comments.
- Discourse cohesion, recurrent grammatical structures and additional lexical and grammatical difficulties
- Listening comprehension : various language laboratory exercises to ensure a thorough understanding to the message and individual coaching in lanagueg laboratory.
Evaluation methods
Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the information in this section is particularly likely to change.
- Exemption test :10/20 exempts the students from both class attendance and exam
- Written exam on reading and listening skills in week 14 (of the first quadrimester)
- Continuous assessment: 4 tests during the course of the term, Moodle exercises and active participation in class.

Plan A: written exam on campus during the January session
Plan B:
- for the non-exempted students who took part in the LANGL1881 classes: their continuous assessment will be transformed into their final, global mark
- for the non-exempted students whose continuous assessment grade is less than 10/20 as well as for the non-exempted students who are unhappy with their continuous assessment grade: they will be given the opportunity to take the written exam on Teams, just like the exempted students who are willing to sit the English exam in January to improve their mark
- for the exempted students who have officially registered for the LANGL1881 exam in January to improve their mark: they will take the written exam on Teams in January - they will have to download the exam questions from Moodle on their computer - they will have to turn their camera on to enable the teacher to invigilate them while doing their exam on Teams and they will have to upload their assignment on Moodle (= Moodle assignment) within the allocated time.
June & August sessions:
