Content
The course consists of an application of the discipline "theory of organizations" to the particular case of socio-educational organizations. The foundations of organizational theory are first presented and some important concepts are clarified (power, boundaries, structures, conflicts, management, regulation,...). Thereafter, four of the major trends in the discipline are detailed (mechanistic, organicist, culturalist and strategic). Other currents are the subject of more succinct presentations (domination theory, flow theory, etc.). These theories are then applied in a case study carried out by the students, within a socio-educational organisation of their choice. A presentation of these case studies is made during the last courses of the quadrimester.
Teaching methods
The course will take the form of interactive lessons with illustrations and student presentations.
Evaluation methods
The assessment of student learning will be done in three ways. First, students will have to collect data within a school. This year 2019/2020, the research theme is about the lack of interest in technical and scientific professions and the socio-educational means to remedy them. The data collection will be credited with 6 out of 20 points. Students will also be required to produce a short individual report of four pages based on the sharing of the data collected. This report will be evaluated on 6 out of 20 points. Finally, during the examination, students will be asked two questions about the subject matter covered in the course.
