Theoretical and practical initiation into bibliographical research, in concert with the general heuristics course instructor and in function of exercises students are assigned to do. Practical initiation into criticism, dating and analysis of texts. Introduction to catalographical rules, to rules for editing texts and compilation of the critical apparatus.

By the end of this first initiation into the historian's profession, the student should be able to offer proof that he has assimilated the basic principles of historical research and can apply them by means of a simple exercise. |

Content
Theoretical notions : skills and tools, bibliographical procedures, presentation of references, edition of an academic text, elements of chronology. Theoretical applications of exercises in class and assigned work, of incremental difficulty (identifications of people and places, explanations of concepts, critical reviews, selective bibliography on a given subject, analysis of a short historical text by placing it in context, synthesis of a contemporary historical question based on press analysis).
