Content
This course focuses on learning to read and write and their prerequisites.  
The course addresses the current scientific knowledge on the cognitive processes involved in reading and writing development, to help the continuity planning of teaching sequences.
The course will cover the following topics: prerequisites (oral language, phonological awareness, sounds discrimination, etc.), written words identification, reading comprehension, lexical and grammatical spelling and text production.
Teaching methods
The course is based on theoretical lectures, reading of scientific papers, analysis of teaching activities, discussion on children cases studies. It will alternate collective and individual work.  
Evaluation methods
Formative and certificative evaluation on the basis of an individual work on one concept of the course (theoretical research, and well-argued planning of teaching sequences).
