Main themes
Acquisition of the basic knowledges of the historical and geographical context, of the characteristics and the stylistic evolution of the differents periods.
Analysis of the main works of art and art movements, from Prehistory to Late Empire in the Near East (Anatolia, Levant, Mesopotamia, Egypt).
Aims

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

1 Introduction to the archaeology and art history of Pharaonic Egypt and of the Ancient Near East (Levant, Mesopotamia, Anatolia).

Content
This course aims at giving an overview of the archaeology and art history of the ancient Near-East (Egypt, Mesopotamia, Levant and Anatolia) under its different manifestations: architecture, painting, sculpture's wall relief and statuary, decorative arts) since their emergence at the end of the prehistoric period (around 3000 B.C.) until the first centuries of the Roman occupation. The course matter is supported by a strong visual and documentary background.
Teaching methods
The course is given in class by the instructor with a visual Powerpoint support.
Evaluation methods
A written exam.
