Aims

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

1 Contribution of teaching unit  to learning outcomes assigned to programme 
With regard to the learning outcomes assigned to the Master's programme in Interpreting, this teaching unit contributes to the development and acquisition of the following goals: 1.4, 1.5, 2.2, 6.2, 6.4, 8.6
On completion of this course the student will be able to:
-              Render in Language A the original message delivered in Russian in a coherent and structured manner;
-              Practise the level of detachment that makes possible an in-depth analysis of the talk;
-              Communicate in such a way as to generate an atmosphere of confidence with his or her audience adopting the appropriate tone and attitude;
-              Demonstrate flexibility and mental acuity in adapting without hesitation to novel communicative situations ;
-              Demonstrate an ability to concentrate and persevere and to maintain self-mastery especially in stressful situations ;
-              Refresh his or her linguistic knowledge.

Content
Based on the teaching unit « Founding Principles » (LINTP2000), on the consecutive techniques (LINTP2360), as well as on sight translation Russian>French (LINTP2260), the teaching unit LINTP2606 helps the student to make his/her first steps in simultaneous interpreting.
The student will be taught the principles and technique of simultaneous interpretation : active listening and in-depth analysis of the speech so as to grasp the core message, deverbalization.  Special attention is given to the quality of the delivery in A language (French), self-control, quickness of thought. Dedicated exercices will enable him/her to develp his/her flexibility and efficiency in Russian-to-French transfer technique and get acquainted with specific problems in simultaneous interpretation (figures, abbreviations, etc.)

Class-room activities in a simultaneous interpretation room with professional booths
Evaluation methods
End-of-term assessment. Oral examination in front of a small jury.
