Content
This course has been developed in complementarity with other related courses (Law of international organizations; Globalisation and governance; International democracy and civil society). It is interested in the reasons and consequences of the multiplication and diversification of international organizations. It reviews the major theories that have been developed to account for the role of international organizations at the international stage and within the wider globalization process. It proposes a reflection on the fields of action where the IO are particularly active, and develops the notion of regime.
The course also tackles less classical issues, such as the role of the IO in the diffusion of norms and the balance of power such a process unveils; the informal aspects of the functioning and role of IO; the stakes deriving from the rise of emerging powers and the strategies the latter have developed regarding IO
Teaching methods
Mix of lectures and interactive sessions based on at home preparation around readings, conferences, or thematic issues.
Evaluation methods
Written assignment on the state of the art on a specific issue identified and chosen by the student; constitution of thematic files all along the term; participation to the debates on compulsory readings
