Main themes
The seminar will focus on a theme in the area of the philosophy of natural science, to be determined by its members in relation to research projects they are currently involved with. Active participation at seminar meetings is strongly encouraged. Professors and researchers from the UCL interested in the topic and specialists in the topic from outside the UCL may participate in the seminar.

Content
1) General philosophical perspective on biological evolution and, in particular, on the theory of selection through natural selection.
2) Is evolution a causal process? If yes in what way?
3) Historical explanation, the case evolutionary explanation.
Teaching methods
A seminar followed by a workshop.
Evaluation methods
The evaluation consists of three elements: active participation to the seminar (20% of the final grade), a personal research essay (50%) and the presentation of this paper to the seminar workshop (30%).
In second session, the evaluation consists of a personal research essay (50%) + a written exam (50%).
