I. OPHTHALMOLOGY no informations II. OTORHINOLARYNGOLOGY The course is subdivided in 3 parts: 1. Otology : Anatomy and physiology of the ear, the auditory and vestibular nervous pathways. - Examination of hearing and balance. - Otoscopy. - Pathology of the external ear and the middle ear, more particularly acute and chronic otitises and the otosclerosis. - Pathology of the inner ear. - Rehabilitation of the disorders of hearing. - Retro-labyrinthic pathology. - Pathology of the facial nerve. 2. Rhinology : Anatomy and physiology of the nose and the sinuses. - Clinical examination of the nose and the sinuses. - Traumatic, allergic, infectious, inflammatory and tumoral pathology of the nose and the sinus. 3. Laryngology : Anatomy and physiology of the pharynx, the larynx and the neck. Pathology of the pharynx, more particularly chronic tonsillitis and pharyngitis. Techniques of examination of the larynx. Pathology of the larynx of which dysphonies and benign and malignant lesions of the larynx. Methodology: lecturing. Illustrations by slides and films video. III. ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL DISEASES - Ex cathedra lectures - Clinical signs are described and well illustrated - Diagnostic approach is detailed, only symptomatic treatments are developed - Prevention of oral diseases is emphasized (oral health)

Aims

I. OPHTHALMOLOGY To acquire adequate information related to ophthalmology in order for the general practioner 1) to easily recognize ocular signs and symptoms related to ocular problems or diseases 2) to be able to elaborate a differential diagnosis and eventually diagnose the ocular problem 3) to inform and guide the patient about his ocular problem 4) to take appropriate therapeutic measures related to his competences The course is well documented by double slide projection with texts including simple, highly specific statements summarizing the available handout and straightforward photos of ocular lesions. The basic ocular examination and ocular anatomy are given before reviewing the different pathologies affecting each ocular tissues and structures. Emphasis on diseases easily recognized by a simple external examination without using sophisticated material. The differential diagnostic approach of ocular signs and symptoms is given through summarizing tables whose the general practioner can later consult during his practice. The "what to do" when an ocular emergency occurs is described with key points for the general practioner. A review of ocular manifestations of systemic diseases allows to connect ophthalmology with other medical fields. II. OTORHINOLARYNGOLOGY To teach with the students of master 3 in medicine the bases of oto-rhino-laryngologic pathology: recall of anatomo-physiology, physiopathological bases, ENT semiology, medical and surgical pathology of ENT sphere. III. ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL DISEASES - To give the future GP and MD, elements of etiopathogeny, diagnosis and treatment (mainly symptomatic) of the most frequent oral and maxillofacial diseases - To describe the clinical signs of oral diseases in order to allow the future GP and MD to propose a diagnosis and/or a differential diagnosis of these oral and maxillofacial diseases.

Content

I. OPHTHALMOLOGY A. Teaching course 1) Basic ocular examination : optics and refraction, visual acuity, color vision, visual field, electrophysiology, imaging strategy, radiology of the eye and orbit 2) Review of ocular, orbital and adnexal structures and their related pathologies 3) Review of ocular symptoms for the general practioner 4) The traumatic eye and emergencies in ophthalmology 5) Ocular manifestations of systemic diseases II. OTORHINOLARYNGOLOGY Traditional oral teaching with audio-visual aids. The student has a syllabus for the various chapters of the course as well as CD-ROM for the chapter otology. III. ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL DISEASES - dental and periodontal diseases; - oral mucosal lesions; - maxillofacial osseous diseases, inclusive OMF traumatology - TMJ diseases - salivary glands diseases - Many clinical illustrations : ppt. slides and a text can be found on iCampus;

I. OPHTHALMOLOGY Written test with multiple choice questions and questions based on slide projection of ocular lesions. A 100 page-hand-out with exclusively written material and tables is available. II. OTORHINOLARYNGOLOGY Written examination. Syllabi, CD ROM Framing: residents of ENT department for the practical demonstrations (clinical examination ear-nose-throat) and collaboration of Professors for teaching ( Pr M. Gersdorff, Pr B.
