Main themes

These objectives will be achieved after a presentation of: - old Jewish literature texts (Qumran, Pseudepigraphs, Targums, Midrash, Mishna, Talmuds); - the historical context in which this literature was produced; - rabbinic biblical texts interpretation methods.

Aims

At the end of this activity, the student will be able - to deal with a question about old Jewish history; - to read old Jewish literature; - to understand the main hermeneutical process used in this kind of literature.

Content

We begin with a summary of Jewish history (since the return of exile until the Middel Ages), and go on presenting old Jewish literature from a biblical point of view (...) Special attention will be drawn towards rabbinic text interpretation methods and towards jewish literature in greek.
