Main themes
In order to achieve this end,
- an ancient biblical commentary (from the Antiquity to the 18th century) will be studied;
- it will be compared to other commentaries on the same biblical passage;
- attention will be paid to the type(s) of biblical texts used in the ancient commentary.
Aims
At the end of this course, the student will be able to
- read a ancient biblical commentary and understand the approach of the author;
- situate this approach in the history of biblical interpretation;
- perceive clearly the importance of it for the exegesis of today.
