This course is meant to lead to a lively and active discovery of the opera world, and thus to the music world, not only in its own realization but also in the devices helping its creation (composition, interpretation, rehearsals, direction, scenery, ').
Discovery of the music and more particularly the opera world.
Acquisition of a critical and theoretical proceeding, through, among others, active listening and confrontation with lively pieces of work, both modern and older compositions.

This course develops around a project in partnership with the Theatre Royal de la Monnaie. After an introduction on the major steps of Opera history and its cultural stakes, students are invited to go and see three productions of the semester, each of these preceded by a detailed introduction. External people are regularly invited within the framework of the course. A visit of the Ateliers de la Monnaie and meetings with Theatre professionals (machinists, decorators, dressmakers, architects,') are also included.
