Main themes
Basis of history of fortification, main principles of military architecture; specific themes : adaptation of castles to gunpowder, relationship between ramparts and town planning, theory of fortification, "plans en reliefs", technical history of artillery, bastioned walls in the Low Countries, etc.
Aims
The student will have an information on historical fortification and military arts in general. He will be able to know the particular vocabulary, sould make a documentary research (specialised libraries and documentation centers) in this matter and will be competent to evaluate such an heritage connected with history of technology. He should prepare a file on this matter.
