The course offers a general overview of post-Hegelian philosophy, paying particular attention to metaphysics, ethics, and anthropology. It provides a general survey of post-Kantianism; of phenomenology (from Husserl to Merleau-Ponty by way of Heidegger); of critical theory (from the Frankfurt School to Habermas); from Nietzsche to (up to) post-modernism. The particular focus of the course changes from year to year. The course is based on lectures and on discussions.
The contribution of this Teaching Unit to the development and command of the skills and learning outcomes of the programme(s) can be accessed at the end of this sheet, in the section entitled “Programmes/courses offering this Teaching Unit”.
Assessment is on the course and takes the form of an oral examination during which students are invited to comment on a passage from the set texts after written preparation lasting a quarter of an hour.
