The course analyses, on the one hand, one of the fundamental freedoms of European law, namely the free movement of persons (included the free provision of services), and, on the other, the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union. The course focuses notably on the meaning to be given to concepts used in these areas ("workers" ' art. 45 TFEU; "free movement" ; "internal situation"; "national of a Member State"; "Union citizen" ' art. 20-21 TFEU; "family reunification"; "obstacle"; "imperative reason related to the general interest"; "proportionality";'; "fundamental right"; "general principle of law"; "implementation of EU law"; "horizontal direct effect"; ').
The aim of the course on the status of persons in the European Union is to give an in-depth knowledge of the case-law of the Court of Justice of the European Union in these areas, allowing students to understand the importance of the case-law in the building of Union law provisions governing free movement of persons and the protection of fundamental rights in the Union.
