Main themes

The process and results of the comprehensive geriatric assessment are explained. The main scales and instruments in the different health and functional domains (cognition, nutrition, gait and balance, ADL, iADL, depression, pain, delirium, continence, sensory organs, needs assessments) are presented with examples. The main global assessments systems are presented and discussed (RAI-MDS, AGGIR-P-S, etc.). The rehabilitation for geriatric patients in general and for specific diseases also are explained with examples. The rationale for rehabilitation are discussed.

Aims

The course is aimed to make the student able to understand the process of comprehensive geriatric assessment and to choose the appropriate tools for the assessment of specific problems in elderly. The students should be able to understand a multidisciplinary rehabilitation program for elderly.

The main tools in the main health and functional domains are presented and explained. The main comprehensive assessments systems are presented and compared. The main principles for geriatric rehabilitation are explained.
